Seeing Red

You probably guessed right.  No, I did not want a diamond ring.  That was too "ordinary" "predictable" and "BORING"!  Yes, I did want a ring, because I like symbolism. I chose a solid wide gold band with a small ruby.  Now after 19 years of marriage that ring is sitting in a jewel box, cut open.  When will I have it back on my finger?  Perhaps when the recession is over, when I get a job, when my youngest child is in high school?  Who knows.
Now can you guess how old my youngest child is?

Friends and Small Talk

Small talk never really interested me.  I think that is why I didn't have many friends in college.  In one class in college, I was sitting next to three women, one was showing the other two her engagement ring.  One women said, "Wow, nice, I wonder how much that cost him!"  And then they went on about how beautiful it was and blah, blah, blah.  What I wanted to say to them was, does the ring really matter, you should be wondering how well He listens to her and if she really loves him.  When it was my time to get married, do you think I wanted a diamond engagement ring?
